Truth or Dare

    
     The movie Truth or Dare is a horror/suspense movie directed by Jeff Wadlow. The movie made it’s debut this year, April 13, 2018, which ironically was on Friday the 13^th.  

     The movie is about a group of friends who were brought to Mexico, by a “stranger”. This stranger was thought to have a crush on one of the main character’s, Olivia, but however, he had other plan for her and her friends. He brought them to Mexico to play a game of Truth or Dare, but the game is not all what the friends think that it is. The game has a curse on it and follows the friends back to their home town. They must play the game. Tell the truth or die; Do the dare or die. Refuse to play or die. That’s the rules. The game will end when all the players are dead.

     This movie trailer has a very well put together hook at meets at least three rules for a strong hook. The first is that the trailer opens with the main characters sitting by a fire. This helps the audience see who the movie is going to be about all at the same time (339). The trailer also sets the tone for the whole movie (339). You find out that it is going to be suspenseful when Oliva’s crush is asked what his intentions for Oliva are. The movie trailer open with conflict (339). The friends/players are thing to figure out how to play the game without dyeing, which doesn’t work well for some of the players/friends. 

     The movie trailer adheres to four out of five of the elements of a riveting first line. It contains a question, introduces the characters, gives the setting and sets the tone of the movie (341). The first line of the trailer contains the question, to Oliva’s crush, as to what his intentions with her were. His answer to the questions sets the tone for the whole movie. The characters are introduced in the first line of the trailer because they are all sitting around a fire together. The setting at first is Mexico, but the setting for the rest of the movie is the friends home town. 

     This movie trailer has a very interesting storyline, has a very great hook and adheres to most of the elements of a riveting first line. All these components and the trailer itself makes me want to go see the movie.

Don't Worry, Be Happy

     Adam Phillips, a psychoanalyst and philosopher stated, “Anyone who could maintain a state of happiness, given the state of this world, is living in a delusion.” I would have to say that I am on both sides with this statement. There are so many horrible things happening in this world like mass shootings and drug addictions that it may seem hard to be happy, but there are so many beautiful things that happen in the world like meeting your true love, have children and watching them grow.

     There are many negative things happening in the world like the school shootings. There has been 17 shooting just this year along and we are only 12 weeks into the year. (CNN website, par 1) That is approximately one school shooting per week. (CNN website, par 1) The most recent shooting was on March 20^th of this year. (CNN website, par 2) This shooting took place in Lexington Park, Maryland at Great Mills High School where two children were shot, the shooter and a 16-year-old girl. (CNN website, par 2) it is sad to know that so many young people are dying at the hands of other.

      Also, a world full of drug addicts, most of them ranging between the age of 16-59, it is hard to maintain happiness. (Drug Addiction Help website, par 2) 1,500 people die each week from drug addition and 20,000 people per year. (Drug Addiction Help website, par 2) Knowing that so many people are dying from drug addiction makes it hard to remain positive. 

     However, there are so many wonderful things that happen to people on a day to day basis. Having children, getting married, graduating from college and starting your career. These are reason to be happy and in an evil world, like the one that we live in, it is important to try and maintain some sort of happiness.

 When you are feeling down about what is going on in the world, think about all the positive things you have going on in your life. There is at least one.

President Trump, His Wife and His Mistress

In March of 2018 there was a revolving photo of President Donald Trump, his wife (Melania Trump), and his alleged mistress (Stormy Daniels together. Daniels also made statements that she has had an affair with President Trump while his wife was pregnant.

 The photo is false in content. The photo itself has been manipulated from it’s original form. The original photo is of President Trump, his wife and his daughter. The original photo of Trump and his family was taken in 2005 at the Fashion Group International’s Night of Stars. Also, the photo of Daniels was photo-shopped into the original photo. The original photo of Daniels was taken in 2006 at the AVN Awards.

This rumor can be classified as a wedge-driving aggression rumor. (Knapp 497) This is because the rumor was started to cause controversy and create a negative image for President Trump. The rumor also touches on conspiratorial plots to again cause problems for the President. The details of the rumor make fore a good rumor because it is short and simple. A picture speaks a thousand words rings true in this case. This particular rumor makes for a good story because it is about the President. Any story about the President having a mistress makes for a good story and always gains attention from the public. A photo can easily be distorted, as it was in this cased. This particular rumor has to do with a person in high authority. (Knapp 497-498)

The rumor encourages “shared human sense-making” by making people believe that someone in high authority, such as the President, has a secret side and is “less than perfect”. This is not the first time a president has had an alleged mistress, however, as we I know right now, this is not true for President Donald Trump.

Forgive or Not to Forgive, That is the Issue

     Ethical dilemmas of any kind are difficult, especially when you are having to make an important life decisions. This is true in a major life-changing event in my life. When I was 16-months-old, my birth mother decided that she was no longer fit to take care of me. She made the decision to give me up for adoption. Lucky for me my grandmother and step grandfather decided to adopt me. As I grew up, I had a lot of animosity against my birth mother. Now that I am older and wiser, I have to make a decision on whether or not to forgive her for what she did.

     When making any decision, I always try to choose the option that is going to have the best outcome for both parties. I try to be honest, compassionate, and have courage that I am doing the right thing when making decisions. The courage part if most defiantly true in this case.

     When making this certain decision, I had to ask myself ,"Was what she did for me really the best thing?" After asking myself this, I had to sit down with her and gather all the facts. I have heard many different stories from different family members, but I have never sat down with her face-to-face to speak about this issue. She gave me all the details of her life at that time, even ones that I didn't really care to hear about. However, these details would make my decision a little bit easier. After learning all the facts, I had to ask myself another question, "Is it gonna to be in my best interest for me to forgive her, and how will it make her feel if I don't?" Finally, after long thought, I had made my decision. I decided to forgive her. I went to her and let her know that I forgave her and understood why she did what she did. We are now trying to rebuild our relationship. It is a little bit rocky at times, but no one said  it would be easier.

     In conclusion, ethical dilemmas are never easy to make a decision. In my case, with the help of gather all the information and my religious beliefs, the decision was a little bit easier to make. Now, it makes me feel better knowing that I was able to forgive and it makes my mother feel better that she was forgiven.

Who Am I?

     Who am I? I am a mother, a wife and a stay at home mom. I do read on occasion, but only if it is something that catches my eye. I enjoy reading romance novels or anything to do with modern medicine. I have a daughter named Trinity, who just turned 2 in January. She is an absolutely amazing little girl and has helped me grow in so many ways. I try and read to her every night so that she can develop a love for reading.  I recently became a newlywed in May for 2017. I can honestly say that I married my best friend; he is also be best father I could have asked for my daughter to have. I recently became a stay-at-home mom so that I could be closer to my daughter and focus on my schooling. Success in school has always been one of my goals in life. I have receive my Medical Assistant Certificate from York Technical College, and now I am in school to get my Associates in Nursing. I worked at Palmetto Medical Group for a little over a year before I decided to become a stay-at-home mom. I enjoy reading for pleasure. I normally read romance novels like The Notebook or the Twilight sages. I also like reading articles about modern medicine since I am in the medical field. I find it both educational and intriguing. I do not have a very exciting life, but it is mine. It makes me who I am.
